Applications are invited for the position of Chief, Department of Emergency Medicine
As the current Chief Emergency Medicine is completing his two 5-year terms, applicants are invited to Position of Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS).
HHS and the Department seeks an outstanding individual with proven administrative experience and strong leadership skills. Attributes of the individual include superior interpersonal skills, innovation, consensus building, being an exceptional communicator and a strong interest in leading quality improvement. Having a natural ability to coach, mentor and support the development of others are traits that will foster a positive work environment. Duties as Chief include all facets of administration, as well as graduate and undergraduate instruction and teaching in a hospital setting.
The Chief must demonstrate excellence in patient care, promote teaching in the multiple relevant disciplines, and encourage and support basic and clinical research. The Chief reports to the Executive Vice President and is responsible to the Medical Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors for quality of care. In addition, the role is expected to foster an academic environment in collaboration with McMaster University.

The Chief supports three full-service Emergency Departments (Juravinski, Hamilton General and West Lincoln Memorial Hospital) and the Urgent Care Centre (UCC), and collaborates with both the McMaster Children’s Hospital (a separate ED physician group). The Emergency Departments at the Hamilton General and Juravinski experience 48,000 and 41,000 annual visits respectively, with the UCC’s annual volumes of 30,000. The other sites of HHS include St. Peter’s Hospital, and the Juravinski Cancer Centre.
Prospective candidates must possess or be eligible for Ontario licensure, and hold Royal College Certification (FRCPC) in Emergency Medicine or hold CCFP(EM) designation and/or Certificate of Added Competence in Emergency Medicine – CFPC (CAC-EM) or equivalent and be able to attain a Faculty appointment at McMaster University.
